![]() SubcisionThe procedure, subcision, is used to treat the larger dimples associated with cellulite. After 1 to 3 subcision treatments the dimple can be permanetly reduced or even completely removed.
Often the larger dimples do not respond to the usual non-invasive treatments for cellulite i.e. Velashape or Endermologie, and will need a more intensive treatment, such as subcision.
After completely numbing the skin, Dr. Oleszek uses a unique needle and technique to release the fibrous bands that retract the skin downwards, which cause the depression or dimpling. Most patients report this procedure as virtually painless. Multiple areas or dimples can be treated during 1 session. We have used this procedure to successfully treat acne scars on the face for many years. And now it is one of our most popular and effective treatments for large dimpling associated with cellulite. The most common side effects are bruising (always), and some pigmentation at the treatment sites, which usually resolves in 3 months to 1 year. Compression bandages are applied after the procedure and are to stay in place the evening of the procedure. Patients can usually drive themselves home after the procedure. No heavy activity for 48 hours and no hot tubs/swimming are recommended for 1 week after the treatment. Sometimes antibiotics are prescribed preventatively.
