Skin Texture

Irregular skin texture or unevenness of the skin is often caused by blemishes, enlarged oil glands, enlarged pores and sun damage.  From a series of no down-time MicroDermabrasions to more intensive chemical peels or laser resurfacing procedures, multiple different types of treatments can improve skin texture. At La Fontaine we offer complimentary consultations were we can develop individualized treatment plans based on the patient's desired results, the down-time allowed by the patient's lifestyle and, of course, financial considerations.  Often we can develop plans that meet all the requirments.

A regular program of microdermabrasion and chemical peels will soften and smooth the skin, creating a more healthy appearance, with no downtime.  Chemical peels are best for patients concerned with acne, blackheads in addition to improving skin texture and range from the minimal down-time PCA peels to the more intense yet affordable VIPeel.

 A Photofacial uses pulsed light to lighten sun spots and improve skin texture.  So, Photofacials are best used for patients primarily wanting sun spots lightened, in addition, to skin texture   improvent.

For those of us with exposure to the high altitude sun or prior history of skin cancers, Levulan photodynamic therapy treats pre-cancerous areas (actinic keratosis), improves skin texture, decreases the size of oil glands and decreases acne fare-ups. When Levulan photodynamic therapy is used along with pulsed light, we call this the 'Super Photofacial,' which can show dramatic effects with a minimal down-time. 'Super Photofacials' are not just for the face, but the hands and chest can also be treated.  Levulan Photodynamic therapy will often have several days of down-time, but is one of the only treatments FDA approved to treat multiple pre-cancers.

For those patients wanting more intensive improvement on skin texture and acne scars, Laser Resurfacing can have dramatic effects.  After a series of 3 to 6 Fractional Lux 1540 treatments skin texture and acne scars can improve around 50 to 70 percent with only minimal redness and swelling for 1-2 days after each session.

The MiXto Fractional CO2 Laser treatment can offer dramatic improvment after only 1 or 2 sessions.  This treatment is intensive and will require post-procedure skin care and 5-7 days of down-time.
