HOW WE DIAGNOSE

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
ABOUT VARICOSE VEINS AND SPIDER VEINS TREATMENTS.

What you can expect from The Vein & Aesthetic Center of Denver?

Personalized care from a highly experienced team of board certified Physicians.  An individualized, patient-centered approach to your vein treatment.  A caring, concerned relationship with our medical staff.  Access to multiple, minimally-invasive vein treatment options.

HOW ARE VARICOSE VEINS AND SPIDER VEINS TREATED?

Endovenouse laser therapy (EVLT), a rising "gold standard" for varicose vein treatment.  EVLT is minimally invasive and highly effective for your problem veins.  Patients who undergo EVLT at our center experience minimal discomfort and bruising, no general anesthetic is required for the procedure.  The success rate is 98%, and most patients resume normal activities within days of the procedure.  EVLT uses targeted laser energy to shrink the walls of the problem veins.  The body responds by naturally redirecting blood flow to healthy veins, and the damaged vein soon seals itself off, eliminating the bulging and knotting vein.

Sclerotherapy is quick, minimally invasive and involves little if any pain and bruising.  In sclerotherapy, a chemical agent is injected through a tiny needle into the vein.  The solution causes the damaged vein to corrode, and the body reabsorbs it while blood flow is redirected to healthy veins.

WHAT IS AMBULATORY PHLEBECTOMY?

Ambulatory Phlebectomy helps with varicose veins that are large and close to the surface.  It can be done either alone or in conjunction with EVLT.  In this procedure, a skin incision of about 1mm is made through which the veins are removed.  This procedure is done under local anesthetic.  A compression bandage is worn post treatment to facilitate healing.

WHAT ABOUT POST-PROCEDURAL CARE?

The overwhelming majority of patients treated for varicose veins or spider veins walk out of the office and return to normal daily activities including work within two days.  While the amount of post treatment pain varies from one patient to another, most require only over the counter pain medication like Tylenol for any discomfort. Detailed written and verbal instructions will be provided to each patient both before and after treatment along with a post-op appointment.

WHO ARE CANDIDATES FOR TREATMENT?

Any individual who has spider or varicose veins is a candidate and both large and small veins can be treated effectively.  Patients with significant other medical conditions such as, peripheral arterial disease and heart failure, may not be candidates for this outpatient procedure.  This will be assessed by the Doctor upon the initial screening.

 INSURANCE COVERAGE

Most insurance companies recognize treatment of saphenous vein reflux and painful varicose veins as a medical necessity.  As a result, laser treatment and ambulatory phlebectomy will be covered if 6 weeks of conservative treatments don't alleviate the vein disease. Treatment of spider veins is considered by most insurance to be a cosmetic concern and is not usually covered.  Vein & Aesthetic Center of Denver accepts most insurance carriers in the region.  The office will file your claim with your insurance company; however, the individual is ultimately responsible for any charges that are not covered.
