HOW WE DIAGNOSE

How We Diagnose Vein Disease

Patients with vein disease usually have symptoms that clue the Doctor into suspecting the underlying vein disease.  The most common symptoms are leg heaviness, leg swelling or leg aching and swelling.

If symptoms are present than the Doctor will examine the patient, looking to rule out systemic illnesses, such as, congestive heart failure, nephrosis or cirrhosis.  When there are noticeable red or blue surface veins or large bulging veins than there is a high likelihood vein disease is at the root of the problem.  With skin color changes or ulcerations on the inside ankle, there is definitely vein disease.

Once vein disease is suspected, further clarification is needed to determine the extent and the location of the abnormality.  Spider veins at the end of the leg can signify vein disease at that site or more proximally up the leg.  We use state-of-the-art Duplex Ultrasound to visualize the veins. This allows us to specifically locate the problem area and to direct treatments only to the area needed.

These advances have dramatically decreased side effects and down time, in addition to making each treatment more effective and long lasting.
