What is Dermaplaning?

Naturally glowing skin is not always about good genes and beauty. Many can achieve that airbrushed magazine look with a skin care technique called dermaplaning. Bright, glowing skin is pain-free and surprisingly more accessible than you would think. To find out more about this procedure and how you can get some of the best results in dermaplaning Denver has to offer, contact La Fontaine today.

Safe and Effective

Dermaplaning is an effective and safe exfoliation procedure. It removes dead skin cells and vellus hair (peach fuzz), using a sharp, sterile blade in gentle upward motions. The technique dermaplaning is a clinical name for shaving, but the process itself triggers cell regeneration, allowing skincare products and treatments to soak into the skin more easily. The exfoliation procedure eliminates flaky patches and peach fuzz that traps debris and oils that give your skin a dull look. Dermaplaning can improve your skin’s texture and tone for a brighter, and more youthful look.

Am I a good candidate for Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is suitable for nearly all skin types. If you have sun-damaged skin, fine lines, dry or dull skin, you are a great candidate for our dermaplaning in Denver. This is a great treatment for patients who are pregnant or who are nursing and want a deep exfoliation but are not allowed to use peeling agents on their skin because of the risk that the chemicals will be absorbed into the bloodstream.

Many who have excess vellus hair find this treatment to be a good choice. Hair often causes a buildup of dirt and oils in the follicles, so removing it offers the patient healthier looking skin. If you suffer from acne, pigmentation issues or have excess facial hair, it is important to discuss those concerns with your doctor as he may suggest a more appropriate treatment to address those skin concerns.

Is Dermaplaning right for acne?

If you suffer from acne, we do not recommend dermaplaning. Acne begins in the hair follicle, and when the hair is removed, it can stimulate an acne breakout. Talk to your expert aesthetician at La Fontaine to discuss a better option for acne-prone skin.

Dermaplaning Denver

This sounds easy — can I do it at home?

While it may appear to be a simple share, it is much more complicated than that. The procedure involves using a sharp 10-gauge, sterile scalpel and they are much sharper than the average razor. The technique involves using a delicate touch. It will be best to let your skin care team at La Fontaine Aesthetics handle this procedure to ensure the best and safest results.

How long will the procedure take?

If you can get away during your lunch hour, you will have time for a treatment. Dermaplaning will take approximately 30 minutes, leaving you with soft skin that is smooth to the touch. Many facial procedures can leave you with days of downtime. Not the case with dermaplaning. You can go right back to your routine with the only side effect being silky soft skin!

What can I expect during the procedure?

Dermaplaning is performed on the face, under the chin and on the sides of your neck. The procedure is safe, quick and pain-free. After properly cleansing and prepping your skin, a trained aesthetician at La Fontaine will hold your skin taut and use a 10-gauge scalpel held at a 45-degree angle to gently exfoliate the skin by scraping off the top layer of dead cells. Occasionally, if appointments are scheduled too close together, you may experience slight peeling. Treatments should be spaced at least four weeks apart to ensure optimal results. There is no need to worry about hair returning darker, or thicker. Dermaplaning only targets the vellus hair (peach fuzz) which will grow back the same size and color.

Results that Last.

The procedure removes up to three weeks of dead skin cells that have accumulated — because of this, dermaplaning can last up to four weeks! Depending on the skin care regimen you use after your treatment, you may not need another appointment for up to six months.
